Mick Cooney

Mick Cooney is CTO and co-founder of Describe Data, an insurtech company that recently completed Lloyd's Lab’s prestigious innovation programme. Mick has an undergraduate degree in theoretical physics from Trinity College Dublin, an MSc in High Performance Computing, a Phd in quantitative finance and is an international speaker on topics in machine learning and statistics. While working at a hedge fund he founded Dublin R in 2012, This was Ireland's first R and data science meetup group which now has over 2000 members. Mick has been working exclusively in the insurance industry for the past six years and has a particular interest in Bayesian modelling and Monte Carlo simulation and its applications to insurance.
