M&G has become the latest financial services firm to create a C-suite function with an explicit AI remit.

Matt Mansour will take on the role of Chief Technology and AI Officer from September, joining the firm’s executive committee.

He will oversee the firm’s digital and AI strategy, with responsibility for driving innovation and using technology to support M&G’s strategic growth ambitions, customer experience and regulatory requirements.

The role replaces the Chief Information and Technology Officer position, previously held by Chris Cochrane, who has now moved to Aviva.

Mansour has a background in transformation programmes and technology platform modernisation. He previously worked at QBE Insurance for seven years, and before that held a number of senior leadership roles at Barclays.

Andrea Rossi, Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “Technology, data and AI will play an increasingly important role in supporting our growth ambitions, enhancing the experience we deliver for clients and colleagues, and helping us operate more efficiently and effectively.

“Matt brings deep technology expertise, significant leadership experience and a strong track record of delivering transformation at scale.”

Matt Mansour said: “I am delighted to be joining M&G to help shape the next phase of the firm’s technology and AI journey. As technology continues to transform our industry, the thoughtful application of AI has great potential to unlock long-term value for clients, shareholders and employees.

“M&G has a strong heritage and a clear focus on innovation. I look forward to working with colleagues across the business to support M&G’s growth ambitions and help deliver future success.”

Bank of Ireland recently appointed Citigroup’s former AI head Prag Sharma as its first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer.
