HSBC Innovation Banking has hired from within for its new UK Head of Marketing.

Michael Hunter was appointed to the position in May, having previously been Marketing Director at the division for five years (formerly Silicon Valley Bank).

As well as building a product and marketing function at payments company Retail Merchant Services, he was previously Marketing Director at Barclaycard for four years.

He also has 10 years of experience at tech giant IBM, including marketing and strategy roles.

HSBC acquired the failing Silicon Valley Bank in 2023 for £1, rebranding it to its new name that year under Raj Kumar, former brand and reputation director at Aviva. The division offers banking services to innovative start-ups.
