Cumberland and Principality Building Societies have both appointed new marketing chiefs.
Philip Ward (right) rejoined the Cumberland in November, becoming Head of Brand & Marketing. The Cumberland is the 10th biggest building society in the UK, with £5.2 billion in group assets.
Philip comes to the role after two and a half years at the Nottingham as Brand Strategy Lead.
This is his return to the mutual, as he had previously been Brand & Communications Manager at the Cumberland from 2008 to 2023.
He takes on the role formerly held by Nigel Taylor (left), who spent six years in the position and moved to Principality in October. The mutual is the sixth biggest building society in the UK, with £14 billion in group assets.
While in his previous role, he focused on building an agile marketing team and improving customer experience, focusing on the tagline “Making Banking Kinder”. This approach has included community initiatives around food poverty such as the Kinder Kitchen, which has led to the mutual’s team winning awards.
He had previously run his own marketing consultancy, and held marketing roles in software and consumer electronics.
