Phoenix Group has made major changes to its marketing department, creating a more centralised function under the leadership of a newly created role.

The move will see the group and Standard Life brand and marketing teams combined, headed up by Ben Rhodes, who takes on the new role of Group Brand and Marketing Director.

Harriet Gorbeck also moves from Head of Content to Group Head of Content Marketing and Campaigns, while Sharon Smyth becomes Group Head of Brand & Sponsorship.

The reorganisation will see channel marketing teams moving closer to their respective business areas, while other areas of marketing will fall under the central function.

“This will form a centre of excellence through a single marketing operation to pool resources and expertise across the Group,” said the firm in an emailed statement to FSF.

The move reflects the increasingly important role Standard Life is playing in Phoenix’s growth strategy.

“The changes reflect both the business’ desire to invest in the market leading Standard Life brand and a requirement to deliver the right commercial outcomes in each our trading channels,” the statement said.
