John Gilbert has extensive banking experience; in international, corporate, private and retail banking with NatWest, MAIBL and Standard Chartered (former Group Marketing Director). He also has widespread agency experience in research and consultancy on both ad hoc projects and regular reports and tracking studies. In 2002 he established the UK Financial Activity Barometer tracking consumers saving, investment and borrowing behaviour and a year later the UK Banking Barometer. He works closely with GfK NOP, Mintel and ComPeer and a number of leading financial services organisations. He writes regular features and blogs for Argent, the Marketing Society, Market Research World and the Society of Business Economists. In his spare time John is Chairman of ‘Cricket for Change’, a charity specialising in coaching programmes to help promote greater self-confidence and employability for young people in inner cities and similarly for the disabled and visually impaired. The charity now also has a Rugby for Change Programme partnering The Dallaglio Foundation and is piloting a Dance for Change programme targeted at helping girls in gangs. John is a keen golfer and a member of Wimbledon Park and Bigbury Golf Clubs. He is a founder of the Exeter University Alumni Golf Society that has contributed to the great success of the University becoming the leading golf university in the UK.
